Symbols and Symbolism of Tarot
The Tarot has a complex and rich symbolism with a long history. Such a history is not impenetrable. Opposite so that the popular complaint of much of authors, its origins are not lost in the fogs of time. In fact, most of the fog around symbolism can be dissipated if one studies sources other than occultists with a right asset in the occult interpretation of Tarot. We will make some dissipating top further; while waiting, the thing most important to note is that modern, and the occult readings of the tarot cards have often small to make with their significance in their original context.
Some note that the modern platforms of Tarot are more interesting, expressive, and psychologically resounding that their ancestors. Interpretations evolved/moved as well as the tarot cards during centuries: the posterior platforms “clarified” the images according to significances' assigned with the tarot cards by their creators. Alternatively, the significances come to be modified by the new images. Images and interpretations were continuously reorganized, partly, to help the Tarot of phase until its mythical role like powerful occult instrument and to meet the modern needs.
We can know more about the intentions symbolic systems of originator here, since he conveniently wrote many books on the subject on the occultism and symbolism and a handbook specifically for this platform entitled the colored key with Tarot (1910). As with its ancestor of Marseilles-punt-form, the asset of force shows a woman holding the jaws of a lion, but this image is refined well. The hat of the woman of the tarot card of Marseilles was frequently interpreted like lemniscates: of the length-figure-eight representing the infinite one, or, according to Waite, the spirit of the life. In the newer tarot card, this symbol appears explicitly. Other symbols are included: a chain of the pinks symbolizing the desire or passion, counters a white evening gown symbolizing the purity. The mountains in the content show another kind of force. Even here there is part for interpretation: the tarot card is sometimes considered as showing intellect triumphing over the desire, sometimes like equal union of intellect and passion, sometimes just like a symbol of force or mental resistance.
The twenty-two tarot cards in the principal Arcana are: The fool, magician, high priestess [or Papessa/Popess], empress, emperor, Hierophant [or Pope], lovers, tower, strength, the hermit, wheel of fortune, justice, hanged man, death, temperance, devil, moon, star, justice, sun, judgment, world. Each tarot card has its clean large, complicated and disputed together significances. Completely it is said that frequently the principal Arcana represents the voyage of the fool: a voyage symbolic system by the life it where the fool surmounts obstacles and gains wisdom. This idea was apparently first suggested by gray of Eden of author of tarot in century of mid-20th.
There is a vast body of the inscription on the significance of the Tarot. In much of systems of interpretation based on that of the gold paddle, the four costumes are associated the four elements: Swords with air, magic wands with fire, of the cups with water and pentacles with the ground. The numerology is usually thought to be significant. The Tarot is often regarded as corresponding to various systems such as astrology, the numerology Pythagorean, Kabala, I Ch’ing and others.
