The zodiac of limit indicates an annual cycle of twelve stations along the ecliptic, the apparent way of the sun through the skies by the constellations which divide the ecliptic into twelve equal zones of celestial longitude. The zodiac is the system of the same initially known celestial row. There are two zodiacs apparent independently created. The Babylonian astrology, inherited by hellenistic and Indian astrology, developed the zodiac of twelve familiar signs in the west. In Chinese astrology, the months and the years cross a cycle of twelve animals which imply certain fortunes or misfortunes related to the events occurring in these signs. The Chinese zodiac is not related to the constellations, however.
The zodiac is also understood as area of the celestial sphere above of which a band of eight degrees of arc and below the ecliptic includes, and thus surrounds the ways of the moon and naked planets eye, mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. The traditional astronomers called them these planets wandering holds the first role to differentiate them from fixed holds the first role of the celestial sphere, Ptolemee. The astrologers understood the movement of planets and the sun by the zodiac like method to explain and envisage events on ground.
By 2,000 B.C.E., the Egyptians and Mesopotamians marked the seasons by the constellations which we now call the Bull, the Lion, the Scorpio, and Aquarius. However, the inscription of the seasons by constellations can go again to 5,000 B.C.E.. Perhaps the division of the ecliptic in the signs zodiacal starts, “Chaldean” of Babylonian astronomy as of 1st millenium B.C.E., probably for periods “Neo—Median Babylonians”, Powell 2004.
The Babylonian calendar assigns in each month by constellation, starting with the position of the sun to the vernal equinox. The Babylonian astronomers at a certain point during 1st millenium have B.C.E. divided the ecliptic into twelve equal zones of celestial longitude to create the system of the same initially known celestial row: a system of the same row which asserts the modern systems of surplus of some advantages, such as the system of the same equatorial row or the system of the same row of the ecliptic.
The precise origins of the twelve constellations of the zodiac are unknown. In particular the reasons of the preeminence given to the animals is not very clear, it is in fact a device of all constellations, not simply of those of the zodiac. The form of the constellations themselves were probably not the principal factor, as majority of them bear little or not of resemblance to the mythical characters after which they are called. Their origins are to be in the belief of first people that events on ground were reflected in the skies above them. It followed then, the this important mythical beings in the businesses of the ground must have an image matched in the sky. Consequently time of surplus a process probably developed by which various important archetypal characters in the ancient myth were related to the sky by the “discovery” of a model of holds the first role, or “constellation” in their image.
Because of their important place, the first role along the way of the ecliptic holds would have been given a detailed attention, and the constellations there allotted particularly to the significant mythical beings or the symbols. While the concept of the zodiac developed, these constellations gave their names to the celestial zones that they inhabitated, and thus by prolongation with the signs of zodiac.
The constellation of Scorpius is the sector described in the yellow line with indent. With the difference of the majority of the constellations, Scorpius supports a resemblance with the creature, the scorpion after which it is called. The original Babylonian zodiac was composed of eighteen signs; however the zodiac of twelve signs developed later to become the permanent form, as twelve was probably the number of months per Babylonian year. Today names of the constellations and Western signs of the zodiac were described the first time by the Greek astronomer and the astrologer Ptolemee who lived between 120 - 180 C.E.. What follows are the twelve constellations with their Latin names which gave their names to the signs of zodiac, which are still employed by astronomers today
Ram, the RAM
Bull, Bull
Gemini, twins
Cancer, the crab
Leo, the lion
Virgo, the Virgin
Libra, scales
Scorpio, the scorpion
Sagittarius, the archer
Capricornus, the Sea-goat
Aquarius, the Water-carrier
Pisces, fish
The signs of the zodiac Indian are primarily identical that the Westerners, with the names in Sanscrit instead of Latin.
The astrologers employ astronomical observations of the movements of the sky of night for divinatory goals. The zodiac remains in service in modern astrology, although the question of tropical astrology, employed mainly by the Western astrologers and of sidereal astrology, employed mainly by the Indian astrologers is central. With the question during the discussion is if the signs should be defined in terms of zones derived from the nodal points defined by the movement of Earth' S during one year tropical, or if the signs should be defined in terms of signs harshly aligned with the constellations of the same name, for the sidereal astrologers. This imports because of an astronomical phenomenon called the precession of the equinoxes, by which the position of holds the first role in sky changed finished time. Consequently, during centuries the twelve signs zodiacal in Western astrology do not correspond any more to the same part of the sky but their original constellations, or to their Indian counterparts. Indeed, in Western astrology the bond between the sign and the constellation was broken, while in Indian astrology it remains of paramount importance.
Independently of if the tropical or sidereal definition of the zodiac is chosen, the astrologers draw up a chart the positions of the sun and planets compared to the signs zodiacal. The horoscope is employed to associate properties of a sign the properties of planets placed in this sign. It is said that the planet influences events on ground but the way in which it does this is modified by the influence of the sign in which it is placed.
The modern Western astrological signs are simplifications of the conventional picturesque representations of the signs, used since hellenistic periods. The characters are coded in the unicode with the U+2648 positions in U+2653, hexadecimal numbers. The representation of glyph of these characters will depend on the police force in which they are shown.
Below are the Roman names of the signs of the zodiac:
Ram, the RAM
Bull, Bull
Gemini, twins
Cancer, the crab
Leo, the lion
Virgo, the Virgin
Libra, scales
Scorpio, the scorpion
Sagittarius, the archer
Capricorn, the Sea-goat
Aquarius, the water carrier
Pisces, fish
Indian zodiac
Traditional Hindu astrology has a system of the same sidereal row of zodiac with twelve signs. The names of the Hindu signs zodiacal, or the rasis, are similar to the signs Graeco-Babylonians, apparently because of the contact Indo-Greek:
“RAM has”, Ram
abha “bull”, Bull
mithuna “a pair”, Gemini
karka “crab”, Cancer
ha “lion”, Lion
kanya “girl”, Virgin
Tula, of tula “balance”, Balance
vrushchik “scorpion”, Scorpius, also kaurpi, lent of the Greek
karmuka, wrapped, dhanus “arc, arc”, capin “armed with an arc”, Sagittarius
has, ga “antelope”, also will makara “sea-monster”, Capricornus
kumbha “jug, water-pot”, Aquarius
matsya “fish”, also jha has, timi, undermined afterwards specific kinds of fish, Poisson
This “Hindu zodiac”, adhvan, rasi has similarities with the Greek zodiac thus. The system Graeco-Babylonian of twelve signs covers the indigenous Hindu system with nine grahas or planets.
Chinese astrology also has a system of twelve signs sometimes also indicated under the name of “zodiac”. This does not imply necessarily a common origin, since the number of twelve naturally suggests number of synodal months in year; in other words, the width of a sign zodiacal corresponds to the way covered by the sun between two new moons. It is interesting to note, that in spite of the lack of common origin, the Chinese zodiac is also composed of the animals. However, the Chinese zodiac associates each animal one month and one solar year. Thus the signs repeat all the twelve years cycle. The animals of the Chinese zodiac are: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, or hares, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, or goat, monkey, cock, or Phoenix, dog and pig, or boar. For a list in the way in which these animals trace in the months and the years to see Chinese astrology. There is also a Chinese lunar zodiac consisted of twenty-eight lunar “manors”, each one which corresponds to a Chinese constellation.
Beyond the traditional Chinese system, in new movements of age or Occultist there are sometimes of the same complaints of other systems such as “a Celtic zodiac” based on the Celtic calendar lunisolar, or “a galactic zodiac”. The other obviousness suggests the cultures Maya, INCA and Aztec of the celestial events also remarkable Westerners of hemisphere along the zodiac. The Maya for example, certainly had a zodiac of a certain kind. The Maya name for the Scorpion of constellation was also “scorpion”, whereas the name of the Gemini of constellation was “peccary”. There is obviously for other constellations being baptized name of various animals, but it remains not very clear.
