The term "Celtic Music" can refer to both orally-transmitted traditional music and recorded popular music, but the term Celtic Music primarily describes two things:
- the music of the people calling themselves Celts
- the qualities unique to the music of the Celtic Nations
The term Celtic Music is often applied to the music of Ireland and Scotland, however, Irish and Scottish traditional musicians tend to avoid using the term "Celtic music." The music of Wales, Cornwall, Isle of Man, Brittany, Northumbria, Galicia, Cantabria and Asturias, and Northeastern Portugal are also a part of Celtic music.
