Walking Your Own Path |
|||
|
You can only walk your own path, no-one elses. You must learn your own strengths and
weaknesses, your own language and your own way of asking the spirits to help and work
with you. You must find the tools you need and preferably construct them yourself. Talk
to the spirits everyday. You don't need a special time, nor a special place. Speak from
your heart and speak clearly. Smudging yourself and your home everyday helps you to build your intent to follow a Shamanic path. Smudge your rooms by burning the herbs in a heat proof bowl. Open a window as the smudge burns to release anything that the smudge drives out. Do not blow on the smudge, fan it with a paper fan or a fan made from bird feathers. Let the smoke travel everywhere. Fan the sweet clouds over yourself, letting it surround you. |

You will find your own Shamanic awareness through practice and experience. The best
method is to put yourself into sacred situations, such as ceremonies and sacred spaces,
to perform Shamanic Rituals, and to reflect upon your own medicine. Another good practice is to go into the wild with the intent that you are there for a sacred purpose. These places give you a chance to have quiet time, to interact with the world in an unhurried and uncluttered way. Remember to approach these places with respect. |

A relationship with animal spirits is one of the oldest elements of Shamanism, Everyone
has them, without which they could not live. If you are unaware of them, you are simply
not in touch with them. You can not predict which animal will work with you, nor can you
force one. Probably the best way to meet your spirit animal is to find someone who can drum you along a Shamanic journey into the Lower World. Even without the benefit of a drum journey, you may still have a deep sense of an animal always being around you, one that keeps appearing, or you just keep thinking of. When you have a good idea what your spirit animal is, you can begin to work with it in your life. It is essential to examine the background of your animal, both from a zoological and a folklore perspective. This will give you greater knowledge about the animal and more likely, also about yourself. |
